Thinking with Type, 2nd Edition

The second edition of Ellen Lupton‘s very successful, very well-written, and, of course, beautifully designed Thinking with Type, (Princeton Architectural Press) is now available. As she says in the Introduction, “I’ve put on some weight since 2004, and so has this book” with more examples of how to present your writing and design so they capture their intended audience. The writing is as smooth and elegant as the design. The book is a beautiful objet on which to rest your eyes.

A word about publication dates

I’ve just written a brief post about the second edition of Ellen Lupton’s very successful Thinking with Type, to be posted later today. The new books are already in the stores, but I wanted to celebrate the ceremonial moment. Princeton Architectural Press, the publisher, says the book is coming out November 22 on their website. Amazon (I use them for research! It’s just research!) says October 6. Indiebound says September. The truth is that a book, even an incredibly successful one like this one, doesn’t have a single official date unless it’s something as big as Mockingjay or a Harry Potter book. It doesn’t really matter, but it would be nice if we could all coordinate on at least the month.
