One of the very first posts I ever wrote here on BMore Nerdy was the announcement of the Marvel Anime series coming to the US, particularly onto Male Geek channel G4.

At the time, we only had a look at Iron Man, it seems that the information has been revealed about the X-Men series, soon to premiere in Japan and show here later this year.

Scheduled for an April 1st airdate, the character re-designs featured above are both familiar and dramatically different.

If you’re wondering why they’re so glum, maybe the plot synopsis will give it away for you…

The X-Men are reunited following the death of a teammate, and are summoned by Charles Xavier to Japan following the abduction of Hisako Ichiki (Armor). There, they confront the U-Men, a lunatic cult that steals and transplants mutant organs to further strengthen their own army, and the battle for justice is on.

Yeah, I’d be sad too, if my friend died and then I had to fight a bunch of guys.

What do you think of the new looks?

While the first trailer for X-Men: First Class didn’t do much for me, the more that Fox reveals images from the film, the more intrigued I become.

And that has continued with today’s release of two new posters from the film.

Following the teaser poster (which was a simple, tasteful Xavier School logo), these two new posters show the main leads of the film, Michael Fassbender as Magneto and James McAvoy as Professor Xavier respectively, and showcase not just who they are in the film, but who they eventually will become.

In a world of photoshopped headshots, these are some very strong, evocative images, and I applaud the marketing team for making them.

Let’s just hope the movie is as cool as these posters are.

X-Men: First Class hits theaters on June 3, 2011.

But the question is – can someone make it easier to understand?

Sure thing. Graphic designer Joe Stone decided to tackle this task, and he made it pretty darn visually appealing, to boot.

So next time you crack the cover of a new Marvel mutant tale, have this easy to follow guide by your side to recall which character hooked up with who.

Stuck as to who is who? Joe even threw together an easier to follow answer key!

Another piece of the puzzle for Superman: Man of Steel has been set, as Warner Bros and director Zach Snyder have signed their man to wear the cape!

A relative unknown, actor Henry Cavill has been locked up to star in the 2012 return of the classic hero.

While I’m not very familiar with his work, which includes roles in Stardust, Tristan & Isolde and The Tudors, looking at the still above, I can’t help but note how right he looks for the part.

Snyder is said to be VERY high on Cavill, and I look forward to seeing what he brings to the role.

What do you think? Let me know in the comments.

Wow, I didn’t expect this sort of image to be released for a few months, but the team at The Daily BLAM! seems to have sources in high places, as thanks to them, the first look at the cast of X-Men: First Class has hit the web.

A mishmash of X-Men characters new and old, the image showcases our first looks at James McAvoy as Professor X (with hair), Michael Fassbender as Magneto, January Jones as The White Queen and Rose Byrne as Moira McTaggart, among others.

The full synopsis for the June 3, 2011 release is as follows:

X-Men First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

Hopefully Fox will release a higher resolution version of this cast shot soon, but in the meantime, we have this watermarked look at the cast.

What do you think, folks? Personally, I like how the team seems to have a uniform similar to the classic yellow and black garb, but not quite. I still am not sold on the reason for the film, aside from continuing the X-Men franchise, but we’ll see.

EDIT: Updated – 3:07pm

We now have a watermark-less version!

Ask any movie nerd about Godzilla, and chances are they have very fond memories about the Japanese city destroying monster. But when American studios have attempted to create new films with the big angry lizard, the results have been anything but positive.

Most recently, the late 90s brought Godzilla, the terrible Matthew Broderick starring flick helmed by the team that gave us Independence Day. While they tried their best to produce a solid flick, the results were anything but good, resulting in a film referred to by proper Godzilla fans as “GINO”, meaning “Godzilla In Name Only.” I dare say the only good that came of it last time was an amazing Ben Folds Five song on the soundtrack.

This time however, Legendary Pictures has the rights, the production team that funded Inception and The Dark Knight, and to say their choice of director was an interesting risk would be putting it lightly.

The man to helm the camera? Gareth Edwards, writer and director of this past fall’s Monsters.

Monsters, a low budget independent film best known for it’s very low budget (rumored to be as little as $15,000), put the titular monsters in the background, focusing on a relationship between its two leads, using the creatures as a force to move the plot forward, as opposed to being the plot themselves.

This move is the latest in Hollywood’s move to court interesting auteurs to helm big name projects. (500) Days of Summer lead to the ironically named Marc Webb to become the director of 2012′s Spider-Man reboot, and Disney is courting nerd directors Guillermo Del Toro and David Fincher to handle films based on Haunted Mansion and 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea respectively.

Will these risks pay off? Lets hope that at least in the case of the Big G, he finally gets an American film worthy of his large presence.

I don’t know how you felt, but I absolutely enjoyed every minute of Tron Legacy.

From the Daft Punk score to the amazing visuals, it was a visual and aural assault from the word go.

But there are those fans that didn’t like it, and many said that they wished the tech within the movie retained the low-fi feel of the original Tron.

One intrepid animator on YouTube seemed to want to meet this challenge as he’s condensed the Disney sequel into a 1:11 video, in sweet pixelated 8-bit style.

It’s a really great video, and totally worth the time. Check it out!
