Teams Gear Up For Laguna Seca, May 22nd

So the third round of the 2010 American Le Mans Series at Laguna Seca is coming up this weekend.  This is different from last season in that last year this race was held in October.  The weather will likely be different than what teams remember which means potentially different strategy.  As I’ve mentioned, the race will be 6 hours, two hours longer than last season, so there’ll be more points at stake.  Furthermore, being 6 hours will extend the race into the night creating obvious new challenges and a whooole lotta thrill!

It should also be noted again that this is the last race on the 2010 schedule before teams make the trek to France for the 24 Heures du Mans!  Remember, Petit Le Mans and Class champions from the previous ALMS season all receive invitations to the following season’s Le Mans race.  So it’ll be interesting to see who really shows up this weekend; will some teams take it easy and use this race as a Le Mans warm-up or preparation and not risk too much??  I think, based on point standings being about as close as they’ve ever been and more points available for gain than in a standard 2hr 45min race, teams will run as hard this weekend as any other.  …other thoughts?

I’m not too sure who to expect to come out on top this weekend.  I like the Risi Ferrari again but my hearts still with BMW!  Milner was so close in Long Beach, hopefully he can hold on a little longer this time.  I’d love to hear a good argument for the Porsches or Corvettes…anyone?

Monaco Grand Prix this past Sunday:  So I love Monaco and F1 and all the glamour and heritage of the circuit, but this just wasn’t a very exciting race to watch.  The caution flag ending wasn’t too great as agreed by M Schumacher…hehe.  But Fernando looked good and still no win for Mr. Hamilton.  This is a tough course to gain position on due to the extremely limited room for error and even less, for passing.  I’m happy to say our course here in Baltimore is expected to have much more width and potential for passing.  I still enjoyed it though…I mean…come on, it’s Monaco!
