Softies and Sizzles

So, yesterday was kind of a rough day to be a Baltimore sports fan. And by rough I mean miserable, horrible and overwhelmingly depressing.

BUT I love this city, I love this city’s strange fans, and I love our sports teams. Yes, even the beleaguered Orioles. And, I owe the Baltimore Blast’s Mike Lookingland a debt of gratitude for dragging me out of my stupor today and making me smile.

Lookingland (of THE Loyola Blakefield) is the latest in a series of “tough” guys to pose for Baltimore City’s Show Your Soft Side campaign. The campaign reminds people, especially silly teenage people who do this kind of crap, that hurting animals is NOT awesome. It reminds us that even so-called tough guys like Lookingland, the Ravens’ Jarret Johnson, and the Orioles’ Adam Jones (swoon) have soft spots for their dogs and cats.

I freaking love this, so give it a like on Facebook, especially if you like Ralphy (above with Lookingland), Beau the Soccer Cat, and all their brothers and sisters.

While you’re there, why don’t you give me a like on Facebook as well? And tell your friends to like me too. Pimp me out for reals. Wouldn’t it be sweet if I reached 100 likes? Seriously, it warms my heart whenever I get a new like. That’s how starved I am for approval.

And the more you like me, the more I give you gems like this:

Too bad Mike didn’t pose with Beau the Soccer Cat.

For reals. Although, Mike can’t risk posing in a photo with someone so vastly dashing and handsome.

Staci Wolfson is a homegrown writer and editor based in Baltimore. After studying journalism at New York University, she went on to become a sportswriter. She's been an Orioles and Ravens fan since the earliest of ages. Soccer, however, wasn’t always her thing. In fact, her introduction to the sport included starting sixth grade with a black eye after a ball struck her face at her first rec team practice. But when she was assigned to cover the Baltimore Blast in 2007, she quickly became addicted to indoor soccer, piquing her interest in the beautiful game.
