Everybody Loves Ray

Posted on Friday, January 15th, 2010 at 11:50 am

My friend and colleague Craig Rice is a popular guy in Annapolis.  Smart, savvy, and gregarious, Rice is a freshman delegate on the rise.  But today, on a day when the House of Delegates wore purple in support of the Baltimore Ravens, Rice is popular for a completely different reason.

 Rice Compressed

He’s Ray Rice‘s cousin.

The ethics committee might need to issue a rule on trading votes for Super Bowl tickets.

Wow, another superficial reason for Craig Rice’s popularity! The first, of course, would be the fact that he is a brown nosing, political suck up to the House and party leaders. The only thing he brings to the House is another vote the Speaker can Always depend on. This is the only criterion for a legislator being “on the rise”.

Bill, you are still fairly new. I’d hoped you were better than this.

@LJ: Your comments are absurb and totally without merit. Craig is a hard working dedicated public servant and a life-long resident of Montgomery County. He has faced adversity in the past and so he often exhibits passion when he fulfills his political responsibilities. I understand he is related to the running back Ray Rice who plays for the Baltimore “Ravens” though this is certainly not an advantage especially in “Redskin” territory which he represents. Craig deserves great credit – he has a family and an important position at Marriott, yet finds the time to devote his best efforts to the 15th District.

As a longtime resident of the D-15, I resent your denigrating comments. Craig has been a vital partner on several education initiatives, and has spearheaded school reform, environmental issues, and has been nothing but an asset to the District 15 legislative team. The superficiality you speak of is present in other members of the county delegation to Annapolis, but definitely not in Craig.
