Keeping kids in school saves lives

Posted by ameister on Monday, October 17th, 2011

There is a Facebook group called “Baltimore Crime” that I belong to. Every once in a while I read something there that I find nowhere else. The legendary poster and blog owner Cham Green posted the following the other day:

“I’ve been studying this Baltimore homicide 10-18 year age range. These are school aged children. In 2007 in this age range there were 39 homicides, in 2010 just 10 homicides. Dr. Alonso’s keep-the-kids-in-school program saved 29 lives last year alone.”

Dr. Andres Alonso became Baltimore City Public Schools CEO in July of 2007.  The sample set is probably too small to prove a correlation between Alonso’s policies and the drop in school age murders, but it is definitely thought provoking and the subject deserves more attention and research.

A legitimate Gregg Bernstein complaint

Posted by ameister on Friday, May 27th, 2011

I have read some insane conspiracy theories about Baltimore State’s Attorney Gregg Bernstein.  I will not dignify them by even mentioning them here.  There clearly are some people who dislike the guy and what he said he stood for.

Gregg Bernstein is not perfect though. He told us he would run things differently than Patricia Jessamy. These days in Pigtown there are many people who do not see a big difference between Jessamy and Bernstein.

Page Croyder sums up the controversy here.   It is a great article so please read it.

Prosecutors cannot quit on carjacking cases!  The voters expected more than this. Bernstein needs to deliver and differentiate himself from his predecessor.

Excuses and frustration in Pigtown

Posted by ameister on Monday, May 9th, 2011

I was included in an email thread about the Baltimore nuisance abatement program not working in Pigtown.
Some people in Pigtown are tired of running around in bureaucratic circles. It was not a shock to read typical pro-bureaucratic run-around type comments from 10th district councilman Edward Reisinger.  Here is what the Pete Welch supporting councilman had to say:

“You are on track. We can’t change the PAST. We need to move FORWARD. There are some Core people, that want to make a difference. We all want a CLEAN and SAFE neighborhood. That is our OBJECTIVE. Stop BICKERING and work TOGETHER.
Councilman ED. Reisinger
10th District”

Reisinger does not want the people of Pigtown to remember the past since in the past his friend Agnes Welch did absolutely nothing to improve the chaotic drug situation in Pigtown. He does not want you to remember how he blindly endorsed her son to take her place to reward her decades of incompetency.  Reisinger does not want you to remember how Terry Hickey was gerrymandered out of the 10th district.

Reisinger thinks it is easy not to bicker and to work together. This is not a shock since he is a member of a one party good old boy (and girl) city council that blindly supports their own. The same city council that refuses to talk about the numerous council-people who do not live in the district (and in some cases CITY) they are supposed to live in.  Everyday people can not stifle debate like our leaders can! We can not gerrymander our way out of our challenges.

Reisinger, the good old boy establishment leaders, and the people who work for the oragnizations that are supposed to solve the problems the city created in the first place all want the citizens of Pigtown to continue to run in bureaucratic circles moving from station to station hoping things will be different this time. Everyone loves a little lamb right?

Some people (and I am one of them) think being a sheep solves nothing. In order to get things done in this city you have to call people out by their names and embarrass the establishment. People who do not think outside of the box will condemn you, but in the end of the day you will make a difference while the people who condemn you will continue to run around in circles and get nothing accomplished.

Nuisance property problems in Pigtown

Posted by ameister on Friday, April 15th, 2011

The WVDA sent me the following video yesterday:

YouTube Preview Image

Watch it now!

This is the most compelling and bold video that the WVDA has ever put together. We need more videos like this one.

Baltimore has a nuisance abatement program that is supposed to shut down nuisance properties. Property owners can be fined and problem residents can be removed by various means. Since this is a legal process it is not a quick process. The bigger question is what is wrong with the Baltimore judicial system? Why are criminals only given slaps on the wrists and what the heck are probation officers doing in Baltimore?

Four years of lawlessness from one house is totally unacceptable and until Baltimore can figure out a way to fix situations like this one, the city is going to have a reputation for putting up with anarchy.  This is a great election year video! Hopefully one of the politicians running for something will use this video as away to generate new solutions and make Baltimore a better place to live.

The socialist All Peoples Congress was a major player in the shomrim protests

Posted by ameister on Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Take a look at this video and these photos from outside of the Clarence M. Mitchell Jr. Courthouse the day of the Shomrim hearing.

Most of the anti-shomrim demonstrators have professionally printed signs with the following information on them:

“443 909 8964 All Peoples Congress”

If you google “443 909 8964″ you end up here :

“Baltimore
c/o Solidarity Center
2011 N. Charles St., Bsm.
Baltimore, MD 21218
443-909-8964
baltimore@workers.org”

The “Solidarity Center” has the same phone number as the “All Peoples Congress”.  Here is some more information from the Workers World site that lists the Solidarity Center:

“Have you ever thought of joining a working-class party that fights against capitalism? For almost 50 years, Workers World has been that party.”

So an organization (not located in Northwest Baltimore) that helps put on these protests is at best a socialist organization.

How many of these socialists live in Northwest Baltimore? How many of the anti-shomrim protesters live in Northwest Baltimore?  Without all the professional agitators how many citizens of Northwest Baltimore would be making such a big deal out of all this?

Does the All Peoples Congress plan on protesting the broad daylight stabbing/murder that took place today five blocks away from their Baltimore office?

Did the All Peoples Congress call the murder of Stephen Pitcairn (which took place 6 blocks north of their office) a hate crime and did they protest it?

Here is the press release
that the All Peoples Congress sent out before their January protest. I will leave you with this quote from the release:

“We Demand:

*Werdesheim be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for assault and hate crimes.

*Disband the racist Shomrim vigilante group.

*Reparations and resources for the Lower Park Heights neighborhood.”

Neighborhood watch groups should be expanded in Baltimore

Posted by ameister on Monday, December 6th, 2010

Read this story about some incidents that took place around Park Heights in September.

“Almost 24 hours earlier, Rabbi Dovid Katz was pelted by thrown stones from a group of eight teens.
Hertzberg’s spiritual leader was walking to shul along Taney adjacent Cross Country Elementary School, at about 5:45 p.m. when the assault occurred. It would be his second victimization of crime since Wednesday night, when his Dodge Caravan was stolen and left smashed and abandoned near Pimlico Race Track while he and his family had a meal in their sukkah…

He wasn’t the only victim on Shabbos afternoon.
A 15-year-old boy was assaulted by four rock-throwing youths. He ended pushed to the ground with a broken arm. Hatzalah transported him to the hospital.
He was walking on Strathmore Avenue at 5:15 p.m. on Shabbat. The assailants called him a “dirty Jew” before they pushed him into the ground.”

Had you heard about this before?  This story is one of many that explains why neighborhood citizens on patrol groups are necessary in many parts of Baltimore. Many neighborhoods beg their citizens to participate in neighborhood patrols and only get four people to show up.

Now read this Baltimore Sun article about the Shomrim inident that recently took place in the Park Heights area.

If the Shomrim are proven to be a group that has a bad apple then the bad apple should be fired and the group should continue. Those who are calling for the group to be eliminated do not understand the entire situation in Park Heights and the citywide demand (and need) for such citizen based patrol groups.

Patricia Jessamy and the murder of Carl Lackl

Posted by ameister on Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

This morning I was sent the following two videos. The second one is very powerful:

“Carl Lackl’s murder was one of the most notorious blunders of Baltimore City States Attorney’s Office in history. See the story that shocked the nation through the eyes of the family, and decide for yourself if Patricia Jessamy should be re-elected today, in the Primary Election. This 2 part interview promises to deliver one dramatic blow after another. Required viewing for all Baltimore residents, and beyond.

Properly prosecute and detain the criminals of Pigtown so a Charles Village situation can be avoided

Posted by ameister on Monday, August 9th, 2010

Investigative Voice posted a new article about the Pigtown beating that recently transpired.

One complaint that many Pigtown residents have is that drug dealers and “thugs” commit crimes and either get slaps on the wrists or receive no punishments. The trouble makers are well known and they do not hide their illegal activities. The authorities need to make it a priority to shut down the most obvious law breakers before they take their activities to the next level. A few weeks ago in Charles Village a man who should have been in jail killed an innocent man when walking home. It is just a matter of time before one of “Pigtown’s Most Wanted” commits a horrible crime against an innocent person.

A repeat of the Charles Village murder can easily be avoided in Pigtown. Arrest the obvious law breakers when they are breaking the law and do not let them out of jail the next day. Proactively target the most obvious perpetrators. These people are pretty obvious. On a related note check out the following youtube video that some Pigtown residents made. In the video a male pulls a gun from his waist at 19 seconds and several more times throughout the video. At 1:08, the rapper states “He’ll shoot some holes in your head, Sebastian.” At least one of the individuals in this video has notoriously terrorized Pigtown with his illegal actions.

They are talking about Sebastian Sassi who is a very well known activist in the Pigtown area who is trying to make the area a safer place to live. He is very outspoken and has appeared in quite a few news article like this one and this one.

We do not want another scene like this one in any neighborhood in Baltimore.

Video of Jack Young talking about illegal dirt bikes

Posted by ameister on Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

I do not think that building legal tracks for dirt bike racing is going to help cut down on people using dirt bikes to transport drugs.

A BmoreNews.com video.

A dirt bike track would be a huge legal liability that our bankrupt city can not afford. Some jurisdictions can not support certain activities. If you like to smoke in bars then Baltimore City is not for you, move to West Virginia. If you like to ride around on dirt bikes in a recreational manner then Baltimore City is not for you, move to Baltimore County. We are not located in jurisdiction with wide open spaces and few people. Baltimore is a major urban city that can not handle rural activities well. Life can be tough.

Jessamy tells her partygoers (including Cummings):”Not everybody needs to be in jail”

Posted by ameister on Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

On Sunday the Baltimore Rowing Club hosted Patricia Jessamy’s birthday party. Doni Glover of Bmorenews.com covered the event here.  Investigative Voice also covered the event.  At the party Jessamy gave a speech that you can watch below. In the speech she mentions numerous political people who were at the party including Congressman Elijah Cummings (mentioned at the 1:06 mark) and Lieutenant Governor Brown. This speech really says it all. I suggest you watch the entire thing. At the 5:32 mark in the video she says “you gotta set priorities you gotta identify who goes to jail because not everybody needs to be in jail.”

A few hours after the party Johns Hopkins research assistant Stephen Pitcairn was walking home on Saint Paul Street. Pitcairn was approached by two people who ended up robbing him and stabbing him to death. The suspects in his murder are described by the Baltimore Sun this way:

Lavelva Merritt, 24, and John Alexander Wagner, 34, charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Stephen Pitcairn, have lengthy criminal histories and have been passing through the region’s justice system for years, seemingly without repercussion.

Both of these people should have been in jail.

Here is video of the speech:
