WOLB and the Conaways should be ashamed

Posted by ameister on Friday, August 26th, 2011

Just when you think the Conaways have stooped as low as they can go, they go even lower. First take a look at this Baltimore Sun letter to the editor that calls them out. Do the Conaways think they are some kind of royalty that does not have to follow the same rules we do?

Today I had the extreme displeasure of listening to Frank Conaway’s radio show on WOLB 1010AM. I believe his lackey co-hosts were A. Dwight Pettit, Corrogan Vaughn, and Carlton Douglas of Carlton C. Douglas Funeral Services. Make sure you boycott these three men because of their support of the Conaways. Throughout the show either Conaway, some of his co-hosts, or his callers called for or did not protest calls for the removal of the Police Commissioner and/or State’s Attorney Greg Bernstein from their elected positions. Since this is the USA and we have freedom of speech I have no problem with these individuals expressing their opinions. My opinion is that every single Conaway should resign from public office  immediately.  The radio show gave plenty of good reasons why members of this family should not hold public offices.

The most outrageous occurrence that took place during the show was when a caller wanted to give Mayoral Candidate Frank Conaway some campaign ideas that dealt with green housing. The caller asked if he should leave his number and Frank Conaway said for the caller to call 410 333 3733.  That phone number is the direct phone line of the Clerk of the Circuit Court! Frank Conaway Sr. told a person to call him for political reasons at his work number! How the heck can Conaway rationalize this and why is there no investigation?  Otis Rolley just called the mayor for conducting politics in city hall yet arrogant Frank Conaway takes it a step further by giving out his work phone number to a political operative over the radio. The clerk of the court should not be conducting politics in the Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. Courthouse! Speaking of the courthouse, does Frank Conaway get paid for his Clerk of the court job while he is on WOLB in the middle of a Friday afternoon promoting various Conaway political campaigns?

It was funny to hear a Stephanie Rawlings-Blake  commercial during the show. It was even funnier to hear Frank Conaway’s frustration with the commercial. Frank can talk the talk, but he sure can’t walk the walk. He would not allow callers to talk about other candidates (he said you have to pay for commercials), but he promoted his own candidacy and Belinda’s candidacy throughout the show.  It was hilarious to hear Belinda Conaway call the show three different times. Two of those times Frank was feeding her easy questions and one time Belinda claimed to read a letter of support from a 7th district community leader. She did not give out the leader’s name of course. The letter sounded a lot like one of Belinda’s campaign speeches when she talks about her accomplishments.

Is Belinda a grown woman or just her father’s puppet? Frank was feeding her talking points when she called. She claims she has lived at her daddy’s house on Liberty Heights during all her years in office although Baltimore County property tax records have said otherwise.  Belinda asked her doubters “Where have you been?”  I think Belinda needs to answer that question!

Frank made classless political accusations about Nick Mosby’s wife without mentioning her name. Mosby is running against Belinda Conway in the 7th district.

The Frank Conaway show opened with his campaign rap.  What a sick joke.

A national SLAPP act and Croyder on Bernstein

Posted by ameister on Monday, June 6th, 2011

I stumbled upon this great opinion piece by Representative Steve Cohen of Tennessee’s 9th congressional district. He has proposed something called “The PETITION Act”

“The PETITION Act, or the Protecting the Expression and Transmission of Ideas and Thoughts In Our Nation Act, would provide procedural protections to filter groundless cases before the costs and burden of litigation cause defendants to waive their First Amendment rights by “correcting” or silencing themselves as part of a settlement; allow a SLAPP defendant to bring a special motion for early dismissal and to stay most discovery proceedings pending disposal of the motion; and enable a defendant who prevails on the special motion to recover fees and costs.”

Sounds great to me!

Page Croyder wrote an excellent critique of the Sun’s recent Gregg Bernstein “gotcha” article. This piece is inline with my recent post about the local media’s priorities.

A legitimate Gregg Bernstein complaint

Posted by ameister on Friday, May 27th, 2011

I have read some insane conspiracy theories about Baltimore State’s Attorney Gregg Bernstein.  I will not dignify them by even mentioning them here.  There clearly are some people who dislike the guy and what he said he stood for.

Gregg Bernstein is not perfect though. He told us he would run things differently than Patricia Jessamy. These days in Pigtown there are many people who do not see a big difference between Jessamy and Bernstein.

Page Croyder sums up the controversy here.   It is a great article so please read it.

Prosecutors cannot quit on carjacking cases!  The voters expected more than this. Bernstein needs to deliver and differentiate himself from his predecessor.

The Vanguard Justice Society financially supported Jessamy

Posted by ameister on Monday, October 11th, 2010

Many voters liked that Patricia Jessamy did not seem to have the best relationship with the police. Some people feel that Jessamy was a sort of counterbalance to the police and now that Bernstein is in charge that a mass conspiracy will be fullfilled and black people will be rounded up by the police and State’s Attorney’s office. That conspiracy theory is a demented and paranoid one, but it was born out of many people’s hate of the police force. I have no idea what Jessamy’s personal feelings are toward the police, but she deffenitly did not mind that people thought she was on a different team than they were.

At the bottom of a Baltimore Sun article from September 1, 2010, there is a very interesting police related quote:

“The Vanguard Justice Society, which represents minority police officers in the city, sponsored a debate between the two candidates. But its president, Lt. Ken Butler, said Wednesday that the group probably would not endorse a candidate.”

The quote itself it pretty boring. Why would a black police group support a woman who is not police friendly? On the other hand would it make sense for a black police group to support a white candidate for State’s Attorney? Neutrality seemed to be the easiest position to take on this race and we all know that in Baltimore our so-called leaders usually choose the easiest option on issues like this.

The Vanguard Justice Society is a non-profit organization (not sure if it is 501 C (3) organization).  It appears this non-profit organization that wanted the world to think it was neutral made the following campaign contributions:

Candidates Account Contributor Name(Address) Amount Date Received Contribution Type
Jessamy, Pat Friends Of Vangaurd Justice Society, Inc.
(4800 Reisterstown Road ,
Baltimore, MD, 21215-5518)
$650.00 08/20/2010 Business Entity
Jessamy, Pat Friends Of Vangaurd Justice Society, Inc.
(4800 Reisterstown Road ,
Baltimore, MD, 21215-5518)
$580.00 08/05/2006 Ticket purchases by Business Entity

The 2010 campaign contribution was made BEFORE Vanguard Justice Society president Ken Butler said that his group probably would not endorse a candidate.

It looks like Jessamy was friendly with certain police (they financially supported her in 2006 also!). There goes another Bernstein conspiracy theory and the credibility of the Vangaurd Justice Society.

Jessamy and Burns are history!

Pat,
You should have fired Burns when you had the chance… you would have won this election. Karma is a female dog. I hope this photo gives both you and Marty pleasant memories for the rest of your wretched lives…

Endorsements and observations

Posted by ameister on Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

I really wanted to write more today, but real life responsibilities got in the way. I have been incredibly busy for the last week. Maybe one day I will be  a full-time online newspaper publisher and I will be able to make election coverage a higher priority in my life.

I think it’s pretty obvious who I support. I like Bernstein, Ferguson, Hector Torres, and anyone running against a Conaway. I encourage you to vote for any candidate running against an incumbent who has endorsed Jessamy.  If I had more time I would have written about Josh Dowlut, Art Buist, and Melissa Techentin.  All three of those people are outsider candidates who have reached out and contacted me numerous times. Good luck to all of them.

I voted at 1:45 PM and then ran through the 40th, 44th, and 46th districts. There were no people handing out materials in the 40th. In the 44th I ran by a polling place on Eutaw where there were numerous people handing out candidate promotions. Keiffer Mitchell and John Anderson were well represented. I ran to Westport and visited two polling places. At the firehouse there was only one guys handing out Bil Ferguson materials. One one hand out Ferguson is on a ticket with Governor O’Malley. On another handout he is part of the “46th District Democratic team” along with Jason Filippou and Bill Romani. At the nearby school in Westport there were Della and Ferguson people who all seemed to be half asleep. Della’s ticket included Peter Hammen, but so did the O’Malley/Brown endorsed ticket which also included Ferguson. I guess Peter Hammen is a likable guy or a shrewd politician. Baltimore fire and police support Della, at least that is what a piece of paper I was handed said.I think an off duty firefighter handed me that one. Ferguson had more flyers than Della and his materials were all fancier (more expensive).  I ran by a polling place in pigtown also. The Pigtown Polling place had the most activity in front of it. I actually saw a Bernstein sign there and centralcommittee candidate Bill Marker was handing out promotions. Marker is on the Ferguson ticket.  At 3:57 PM I received a Gregg Bernstein robocall.

Who made race a factor in this year’s State’s Attorney’s race?

Posted by ameister on Monday, September 13th, 2010

Who made race a factor in this year’s State’s Attorney’s race?

This guy says Bernstein did it!

I agree with Page Croyder’s assessment of the situation.

It was Jessamy who said that “If he is elected he will be taking us back sixty years

Here is a pro-Jessamy article that talks about her supporters Elijah Cummings and Kweisi Mfume and “how race should not be a factor in the safety of the city“. Read the entire article for a completely different take on this election.

Keep checking back here for my official endorsements and many other last minute election articles.

Did Frank Conaway Sr. make anti-Semitic comments in front of a gathering of ministers?

Posted by ameister on Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Frank Conaway, Sr. had some very interesting things to say at the September 2010 meeting of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Baltimore & Vicinity. You can watch the full video of his is speech below. The most controversial part of the video starts at the 2:17 mark. Conaway thinks that a political trick is being played on the voters. It involves the Bernstein last name. It is ironic that he is concerned about such a “trick” because he tries to confuse people with his family’s last name in the same way he accuses the Bernsteins.

There also is a man with the last name of Bernstein running against Conaway’s wife. Conaway feels that people will vote for the Bernstein running against his wife only because they think they are voting for the Bernstein who is running against Jessamy. He feels “that’s an old trick they are playing”. Who are “they”? More quotes below:

“Play an old trick that they used to play on us years ago.” Who are “they”?

That was an old Jack Pollack trick they used to play on our community.” Jack Pollack was an old school Jewish politician who controlled an old school political machine. He has been dead for many years. Again I am wondering who Conaway is talking about? I think this statement of his pretty much says it all.

“They are trying to steal a seat from us.” Who are “they”?

“And they are trying to replace all of the African-American women who are doing a great job.” Who are “they”?

Bernstein endorsed by police, Jessamy on the Steiner show, and a new Page Croyder bomb

Posted by ameister on Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Gregg Bernstein was endorsed by the Baltimore police union today. This news is not surprising, but it had to be mentioned. I would love to see more public officials make endorsements in this race instead of fearing how many future votes their true feelings may cost them. In other Bernstein news, I received his third mailing yesterday.

Patricia Jessamy was on Monday’s Marc Steiner. You can listen to what she had to say here and read a Baltimore Sun summary of her appearance here.

I find it hilarious that Jessamy says she is very visible. Is that why she rarely talks to the press and has Margaret Burns do all the talking for the State’s Attorney’s office? I am also tried of her Baltimore makes up “31% of all criminal charges in the state and 60% of all commitments in the state”. All that proves is that the crimes in Baltimore are much more worthy of jail time. Baltimore’s criminals are more violent and dangerous than the rest of the state. It says nothing about how many of these people keep going in and out of jail and how short their sentences are in Baltimore compared to the rest of the state. Do we have the most repeat offenders? Do we have the most brazen criminals who know they can get away with a crime if there is only one witness? How often do criminals in Baltimore accept lenient plea bargain deals?

Jessamy says she is not responsible for crime. I think Jessamy is responsible for crime because criminals know they can get away with crimes without having to serve time (or a lot of a time) and know that they can repeat their behaviors over and over again without the serious punishment that they would receive in other jurisdictions. Jessamy has helped create the lawless and criminal friendly environment that we live in.

Page Croyder is at it again. This time she exposes Patricia Jessamy and Nathaniel McFadden.

I received my second Bernstein mailing of the week

Posted by ameister on Friday, August 27th, 2010

Who else received a Gregg Bernstein “Making our streets safer starts with CONVICTING VIOLENT CRIMINALS and then SENDING THEM TO JAIL” full color 8.5×22 inch folded over flyer in the mail today? This is the second Bernstein mailing I have received this week.

On Tuesday I was mailed a Gregg Bernstein “Criminals in Baltimore are getting away with MURDER” full color 8.5×22 inch folded over flyer.

“We can’t fight crime if we let violent criminals get away with murder”

He is using his financial advantage for a marketing version of “Shock and Awe” in Baltimore. I assume he sent the mailings to every Democrat “super voter” in Baltimore. A Democrat super voter is a registered democrat who has voted in the last 3 Democratic primaries (2004, 2006, and 2008).

While the Bernstein campaign was marketing itself and spreading the truth about the Jessamy regime to Baltimore, the Jessamy campaign was listing its tired list of machine politicians who support her. Here is the list. You should never vote for any of those people:

““Patricia Jessamy is a public servant we can be proud of. Pat doesn’t make decisions based on popular opinion or whichever way the wind is blowing. She follows the law and her goal is to keep the public safe and informed. In the race for Baltimore State’s Attorney the choice couldn’t be any clearer to me. Patricia Jessamy is experienced, tested and tough – all the qualities we need in a prosecutor.”
—Carl Stokes, Baltimore City Council, 14th District”

Anyone else catch the problem with the above statement? Stokes represents the 12th district, not the 14th!
