MARQ y Monastrell Barra

Posted by egriffiths on Monday, December 19th, 2011

Well hellooooooo. My oh my that weekend that just passed was probably one of the most fun filled and packed in one of my life! I love my friends and my family too. But my friends really rock. And this upcoming Christmas weekend is going to be so packed with family time I am certainly going to squeal. Can’t wait to see everyone!!! But may we go back to Alicante?? Oh yes we may, because look at this view!!! It was from outside our hotel room and it knocked my socks off.

So we had a leisurely morning and then set off to the one cool museum in town: the MARQ.

Very innovative and technically advanced and it was really neat to see the history of the region starting from long long ago.

After the museum we headed to the bar (Monastrell Barra)! Ha! Actually it was for lunch, but we may have drank some white wine… Go check these pics out!

El Castillo y La Taberna Del Gourmet

Posted by egriffiths on Friday, December 16th, 2011

That siesta was a nice one…. falling asleep to the sound of waves is luxuriously amazing for sleeping. So we woke up and geared up for some hiking! Don’t they look cute in their exercise gear?

The sun was setting very fast (or it was just that we were slow getting up from our siesta) so we were racing to beat the clock!

The castillo was so cool. So historical, magnificent and gorgeous. Keep going to see some views and our delicious fancy dinner out!

Happy Friday Friends! I think I’ll do some double posting today! So the next morning after our first fun night in town, we went to school!!! Well actually Maggie went to class and then we met her for lunch! There is a little cafe on campus and it has simple delicious dishes.

It was fun going up to the busy counter and getting our bocadillos and fantas. Marfi and I have nice memories of going to Mexico and drinking lots of fanta when we were younger. Go for the jump to see my bocadillo.

First Fun Dinner in Alicante at La Gitana

Posted by egriffiths on Thursday, December 15th, 2011

Yay back to 12 days of Spain! After a long afternoon of shopping and sightseeing we all took a nap! Then were back and up and alive to go eat some more!

DSC_0093

Check out La Explanada at night. Love the old school lightposts. Maggie led us into the Barrio (old part of town) and we settled upon a nice little restaurant that had a table outside and cute view of the streets.

The server was fun, the red wine was flowing, there were tons of tapas to be had and even more fun conversation… check out some slightly blurry pictures!

Lovin some Lunchbox

Posted by egriffiths on Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

SCREEECH. I hereby interrupt my 12 days of Spain with a new excitement in my life that I deemed important to be timely about. Sooooo, you would not believe that the new restaurant in town is the CLOSEST restaurant to my house! Volt Lunchbox opened two weeks ago and the town is a buzzing. Especially our household. Jenn and I have made three visits there in the past 7 days (one together, and two separately) and we can definitely say that this place makes a mean delicious and affordable sandwich.

It also helps that the people working there are awesome, namely Evan and Keith. I had a fun time chatting with them that dark and rainy evening a week ago. On Saturday when I visited with Bethany, Evan made a point to ask me how my meal was, I appreciated it greatly.

Go for the jump to see more pictures!

Donor Kebab and sightseeing in Alicante

Posted by egriffiths on Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

Happy Tuesday ya’ll. So remember where we last left off? We were walking down La Explanada to go eat more food! And Maggie was really craving some donor kebab so that’s what we got. :D

Apparently this cafe has the best in Alicante. It was pretty empty by the time we got there. But it was a nice hole in the wall and it was a nice way to relax before heading off for a day full of sightseeing and shopping!

The first 24 hours in Alicante, Spain

Posted by egriffiths on Monday, December 12th, 2011

Yayyyyyy!!! WE WENT TO SPAIN PEOPLE. It was so beautiful, and full of such good food and nice people and we had alot of fun times. It was pretty much my ideal way to go to Europe. Once we got to Alicante, where Maggie lives, we hopped over to the hotel and then scurried up to the futbol game! This was a super exciting event in town. They were playing the local town over, El Che. Well apparently both teams are really bad, but it was super cool being immersed into the culture immediately!

DSC_0015

Then we got to go back to Maggie’s house and have an awesome home cooked meal made by her madre, Carmen and her hermana, Anna. Jaime, her padre, was there too – and both of us realized we love peppermint tea. Awesome funny thing to bond with over a relaxing lunch.

Go check out more pictures and go for the jump!!!

November Charm City Cookbooking: Gourmet Apps by Nims

Posted by egriffiths on Friday, December 9th, 2011

Hey look! I’m going to write about food! (Not Thanksgiving food or Spain food yet….) but still delicious food, that we got to eat while sipping on some delicious tea! I had cookbook club at my house in November and because it was so close to thanksgiving, we wanted to do something light and dainty. So I found this cookbook at the Frederick Library. Oh how I love dainty afternoons at my house.

DSC_0094

I got out all of the pressed pretty linens, doilies, and Alayne and Julie brought their fine china and tea cups.

But before we got to sit down all happy and ready to chow, we had to cook these delicious things! So go to our Charm City Cookbook Club page to see the post…
